Announces Winners for the 2005 Golden Scroll Awards
The Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA), an outreach of
Right to the Heart Ministries, consists of over 200 of the top ICRS
(formerly CBA) women authors who publish and speak nationally. AWSA,
along other celebrated novelists, announced the winners of the 2005
Golden Scroll Awards Banquet in Denver, Colorado at the Executive Tower
Hotel, July 10th.
The Golden Scroll Awards go to editors and publishing houses who best
demonstrate an outstanding ministry partnership with their authors.
This year's Publisher of the Year Award went to Harvest House. The Editor
of the Year went to Dan Penwell of AGM Publishing. The Fiction Editor
of the Year Award went to Karen Ball of Zondervan. The AWSA Member of
the Year was awarded to best-selling author Carmen Leal. The Strength
of Choice Award from the God Allows U-Turns Project went to AMG Acquisitions
Manager Dan Penwell.
Several AWSA authors nominated Harvest House for publisher of the year
including Allison Bottke who said, "I feel a total sense of creative
freedom in working with Harvest House." Cindi McMenamin said, "They
don't just say I'm part of the Harvest House family, they really treat
me like I am." Pam Farrel agrees. She said, "When I lost my
father, flowers came to Kansas even though I hadn't told them where
the services were held." Sharon Jaynes said, ""They are
truly bringing in a "harvest" for God."
AWSA member Carmen Leal said of Dan Penwell, "Despite his own
fight with cancer, this godly man has prayed for me throughout many
attacks from the enemy. He believes in the message that God has asked
me to share with hurting people." Karen H Whiting says, "Dan
is always courteous and friendly and is always cheerful."
Novelist Brandilyn Collins said of Karen Ball, "Bottom line is
she makes my books better." Karen Kingsbury adds, "She never
settles for less than my very best work."
AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd, said of Carmen Leal, "Even
through Carmen's so dedicated to her own ministry, she always has time
to help other authors be the best they can be. She gives the cause of
Christ her all."
Allison Bottke explained, "The Strength of Choice Award is given
annually to a person within the publishing industry who displays the
courage to boldly share their faith with the world while experiencing
formidable life challenges. We choose Dan Penwell because, despite his
battle with cancer, he lives his professional life to minister to authors
as well as to readers. His life has made a difference."
